Congressman Eli Crane’s Bipartisan Efforts Boost Tribal Rights, National Security, and Veteran Support

In a significant bipartisan victory, Congressman Eli Crane has co-sponsored and successfully passed several key pieces of legislation that benefit Arizona’s tribal communities and strengthen national security.

Empowering Native Entrepreneurs: Crane’s Role in Establishing the ONAA

One of Crane’s major accomplishments is the Native American Entrepreneurial Opportunity Act, which he co-introduced with Rep. Sharice Davids. This act establishes the Office of Native American Affairs (ONAA) within the Small Business Administration, providing critical support and specialized expertise to tribal business owners. Crane’s proactive approach helps Native entrepreneurs navigate federal complexities and encourages economic growth in these communities.

A Sanctuary for Veterans: The Gila County Veterans Retreat Initiative

Crane has also championed veteran support with a Veterans Retreat Act, which secured a land transfer in Gila County to create a retreat center for veterans. This initiative will serve as a vital resource for rural veterans in Northern Arizona, providing a much-needed space for support and rehabilitation.

Securing Water Rights and Economic Prosperity for Arizona Tribes

Crane has co-sponsored legislation to ratify the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Agreement, bringing life-sustaining water and economic opportunities to the Navajo, Hopi, and San Juan Southern Paiute Tribes. The bill is bundled with another notable achievement is Crane’s leadership in authoring the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribal Homelands Act. This bill establishes a long-overdue reservation for the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, the only federally recognized tribe in Arizona previously without a homeland. This legislation underscores Crane’s dedication to tribal sovereignty and land rights.

In addition to his tribal advocacy, Crane has been a strong voice for national security. He played a pivotal role in passing the Subterranean Border Defense Act, which aims to combat the threat of illicit cross-border tunnels used by transnational criminal organizations. The bill mandates annual reports to Congress on counter-tunneling operations, strengthening the defense system at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“As a representative of 14 of Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes, including those in Coconino, Apache, and Navajo counties, Congressman Crane’s leadership is essential for ensuring that tribal rights and economic opportunities remain at the forefront of national policy,” said the Director of Native Americans for Sovereignty and Preservation. “His dedication to advancing sovereignty and creating pathways for Native business owners is exactly the kind of leadership our communities need in Washington. We look forward to seeing him continue his vital work in Congress.

Crane’s Commitment to Tribal Sovereignty and Economic Growth

Congressman Crane’s efforts reflect his dedication to finding bipartisan solutions that enhance both Arizona’s security and the prosperity of its tribal communities. His work underscores his commitment to balancing national interests with the preservation of tribal rights and sovereignty.
